December 4, 2010

I haven't found anything whole in a long time but I have found alot of pieces latley. Got out to Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. at about 7:30am. I went back to dig the west wall. I found a chunk of pottery on the first section I removed. It's got a lip on it and some design. The design looks like talley marks made from a stick. Not much later I found a real nice "T" shaped drill. It's about as thin as a toothpick and a little over an inch long. After a while I found a base of a skinning or cutting knife in some dirt with alot of bone in it. A couple of hours later I found the tip that matches it. That doesn't happen very often. Left at 1:00 pm. Glad to take home two points today.

August 14, 2010

Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. Got up at 5:30am this morning at it was already 81 degrees. Started digging at 6:30am and dug til' around 10:30am. It's been hot and dry so I decided to screen the dirt. I've been in a good zone with flint, snail, and alot of bone. I found two broken Bonham points and I finally pulled this nice point. Maybe a Bonham point. Drove through historic downtown Granbury and heard a loud thump outside. I thought something had hit the truck until I noticed an old west gunfight re-enactment on the square. Only in TEXAS!

July 13, 2010

Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. It was really hot and humid today. It was 80 degrees before 8am. I got out there and started digging. Not much breeze at all so I had to take alot of breaks. Dug til' about 2pm and called it quits. Found a well-serrated knife just below the creek deposit. I should probably pay more attention to this small area of occupation a little more. It looks like a Covington but it's in the bird point camp so I don't know what type it is. I found four similiar knives this year so far.

June 5, 2010

We backhoe dug on Coffee Creek in Palo Pinto County, TX. today. Found a pretty nice Darl and a few broken pieces. I also found a pretty nice mano as well. I had to go home to Wichita Falls so I left at lunch. This camp has alot of sandstone rock everywhere.

May 22, 2010

Found this little arrowpoint towards the end of the day on Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. It was hanging in the wall. I thought it was just a flint flake at that time. It's starting to get hot so I start digging around sun-up (6:30am) and usually quit around 2pm.

May 2, 2010

Went back to Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. Gordan and I dug all day. About 1pm I found this point in a pile of bone about 2.5 feet deep. I also found a broken arrow point about 6 inches away. It's pretty interesting that this dart point was found next to an arrowpoint. I think this piece (maybe a Darl) is a transition piece and worked hand in hand to take down the animal along with the arrow. Gordon came back to the camp and moved into a new place and found a killer arrow point. He found the point of the day.

April 3, 2010

Went home for Easter and decided to try my camp on the Dry Fork Little Wichita in Clay County, TX. I stayed out there and found this tiny dart point after about 45 minutes.

April 1, 2010

Had a day of vacation to kill before I lost it so I decided to head back to Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. I got there around 8:30 am and dug with Gordon and Nick. After about 15 minutes I found this projectile point. We kept digging til' about 3:00 pm. Nick and Gordon found a few broken points and a re-worked point. We moved and screened about a yard and a quarter of total dirt. They left and I decided to move over to the bridpoint layer. I found a nice, little perdiz about 15 minutes into it. Then, I found a little broken perdiz right after that. Had a good day. I planned on staying until 7 pm but I was exhausted.

January 23, 2010

Dug out at Fall Creek today in Hood County, TX. Found this Bonham (1200-600 B.P.) arrow point after lunch. About 2 o'clock it started raining. I tried to continue digging but the ground tuned into gumbo.

January 16, 2010

Spent another 6 hours or so at the camp on Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. It's still pretty muddy. Got another inch about 8 hours before I got there. Didn't even find a broken point and decided to pack up and leave. Took the bucket to the truck, told Richard goodbye and went to get my pick and jacket. Thought I'd just try just one more handfull of dirt. Sure enough in the clod I found this dart point. Couldn't believe it. Interesting enough is this dart point was in the projectile point layer. If this a Darl point it would somewhat make sense because the Darl and Perdiz overlap in time just a little.

January 2, 2010

Dug with Gordon and Richard today on Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. Found this Bonham (1200-600 B.P.) arrow point stuck in the wall. There's some dark patina spots on one side. The find of the day was one of the best Perdiz points I've seen. Richard found it shortly after I found mine.

January 1, 2010

Drove down to Chrisners in Moody, TX. this morning and met Gordon and some of his buddies. Stayed about 2 hours and decided to head to Richards on Fall Creek in Hood County, TX. As soon as a I got there I found this point within the first 5 or 10 minutes. It's really thin and has some nice flaking to it. It may be a Darl Blade. 2500-1000 B.P.
